`Food and Nutrition Terms
21 June 2010 - Revision and collation of used terms in Lessons
1. Carbohydrates: Largest portion of meal, our staple food. Provides us with energy. RDDA for teenage girls: 2150 kcal (a day) Sources: Plants (e.g. wheat) - 6/7 servings a day types: Starch Sugar Bottom of food pyramid
2. Fructose - sugar in fruits
3. Moist heat on carbo - Gelantinisation Methods: Boiling, Stewing, Steaming
4. Carcinogens: Cancerous Materials
5. Dry Heat (dry methods): Little or no oil, fast and healthy On carbo: Dextrinisation Toast: Starch is broken down to dextrins (the browning process)
6. Proteins: Provides energy, enables growth. Builds new cells and muscles, maintain and repair cells. Take in moderation: 66g a day (RDDA) Sources: animals and plants Congulation: Protein change into semi liquid state when heated E.g. Cheese - high in salt and fat, not easily digestible Made more digestibile by a. grate/ chop b. mix with starch foods (fat absorbed) c. Do not overcook d. Season well
7. Fats: most concentrated source of energy (9g per kcal) - provides nutrients Keeps us warm, protects internal organs (padding), holds important organs use polysaturated fat from vegetable origin (less/ no salt) - healthier, no cholesterol Examples of fats: Butter, Margarine, Lard, Ghee

Hello! I am Tan Li Yin from Raffles Girls' School Secondary (211/111, Index No: 25). I graduated memorably from Woodgrove Primary School (1K, 2E, 3E, 4E, 5F, 6E) I am currently 14 Years old but I am very cool and NICE :) My present CCA is the Guitar Ensemble and I play the Alto 2 Part of the Ensemble. I especially like it when we play cool and nice sounding songs together as it makes me feel like I am part of something much much greater! I used to come from the Girls' Brigade and I miss it very much because of all the wonderfully great and awesome friends I have made. My greatest wish is to grow taller so I would need to look up at people all the time. Nevertheless, I like eating food especially after long and sleepy lessons. My favourite hooby is running to stores on fried food day. I enjoy the Food and Nutrition module which I am currently taking. Hopefully,I can learn more about my daily diets as well as good and healthy eating habits from this Performance Task which is due on 2 July 2010. JIAYOU! :D
